“WebMax” from Autefa –
the new optimum Crosslapper “X profile-control” system
The Autefa “WebMax” system was introduced some time ago to provide a “concave” counter-weight profile on the layering belt of the “Topliner” series of crosslappers to compensate for the “smile” effect created by material shrinkage through drafting and speed accelerations during the subsequent bonding process.

This phenomenon is achieved by the continuous “X” profile monitoring of the final product by a suitable measuring system such as “Protagon” or “Mahlo”, positioned at the end of the non-woven line, prior to winding, and, via the unique “closed-loop” control system, the computer calculates the compensation profile necessary on the delivery apron of the crosslapper for each monitored “X” profile, effectively providing the foremost weight evenness in the resultant product.
The data feedback is continuous, with an infinite adjustment of the carded web weight at the “WebMax” twin-zone drafting system positioned at the infeed to the “Topliner” crosslapper and, via the layering carriage control, this corrected carded web is deposited precisely were the laydown will be effected in the plaiting mechanism. Factors to correlate the correction include:
- Laydown or plaiting width
- Draft parameter inside the “Topliner” series Crosslapper
- Dynamic velocity change or specific speed relationships at carriage reversal
The latest “WebMax” technology now features a dual “closed-loop” feedback system:
- Controlling “WebMax” – to level “X” profile and eliminate the “smile” effect
- Controlling “ServoLap” or “Weigh-Belt” at Card In-feed – to maintain weight consistency of final product

The advanced “WebMax” System from Autefa, a branch of Oerlikon Neumag, offers the following advantages:
- Efficient and controlled “Batt” shaping for most fibre types and qualities.
- Twin controlling “draft zone”, one long, plus one short zone, particularly advantageous with some fibres.
- Faster response system, without multi-averaging, minimising the possibility of excessive waste material as a consequence of delayed correction, irrespective of distance from Crosslapper to the “X” profile monitoring position.
- Compensating control efficiency leads to a proportional reduction in raw material consumption.
- No separate, or additional, space is required to accommodate “WebMax” on the Nonwoven Line.
- “WebMax” can be delivered for card web working widths ranging from 2.0m to 3.5m.
- In addition to complete Oerlikon Neumag Nonwoven Lines, “WebMax” can also be retrofitted with any Crosslapper of the “Topliner” series, and enhance the quality of any existing Line, since all calculations are done within the Autefa system.
